Mutu sakata: My DC story

Mutu Sakata: My DC Story is a play written by Renee Namakau Ombaba and directed by Krystal Ali. This production was part of the 2023 Capital Fringe Festival, receiving the Best of Fringe Award with 4 out of 5 stars.

Mutu Sakata, a young Black woman from Mississippi, narrates the struggles, pains, and triumphs she's faced in her new city: Washington, DC. Similar to shows like A Black Lady Sketch Show, Mutu animates her story with various comedic and dramatic characters. With a name that means to be “genuinely human” both to the self and to the society, Mutu battles isolation, loneliness, and the overwhelming feeling she's not enough. Mutu faces her deepest wounds and embraces the most broken parts of herself to create something truly magical and genuinely human.
